APPLE OF YOUR EYE This one came from a late night quiet time. The apple of your eye (an idiom which has been around for thousands of years) is that person or thing that you care for the most. Its original meaning is based on the notion that the "apple" of your eye is the pupil, which is for obvious reasons treasured and guarded as precious. With further characteristic imagery, David refers to how birds protect and nurture their young beneath their wings.
Keep me as the apple of your eye;
Psalm 17
