I wrote this around 2001, while directing the music
for a small church in Charlotte, North Carolina,
while waxing nostalgic on my first magical days
getting acquainted with God.

HEAR HERE

SAY I'M YOUR FRIEND
Winter 2000, Charlotte NC

I wanna live, not just exist from day to day
I wanna give, not just insist on having my own way
You forgive me, and I forget You
Reach out to me, but all too often I won't let You

Oh Lord, this world is filled with so much pain
Oh Lord, I know Your will to make it whole again
Life is so fragile, and there are no guarantees
Can I still be the hero I was meant to be?

When I die, I wanna belong to You
While I breathe, I only wanna be known by You
And when my days are finally coming to an end
I wanna hear You say I'm Your friend

Give me a heart that feels and eyes that see
Give me a concept of eternity
Life is so fragile, and there are no guarantees
Will I still be the hero I was meant to be?

When I die, I wanna belong to You
While I breathe, I only wanna be known by You
And when my days are finally coming to an end
I wanna hear You say I'm Your friend
